Artist Statement

I have spent the past nineteen years working with figurative forms and the emotions they can evoke. I am inspired by feelings, conversations, and life situations; magnifying each influence to create intense experiences.

In my work, I concentrate on the primal core of human nature, our evolutionary journey through time, and the emotional awakening we experience throughout our lives. The figurative forms that inspire my work connect us.  We possess an innate response to look for familiar forms and assess their purpose. The lack of facial expression in my female figures invites the viewer to search the form for clues as to its meaning.

I specialize in patina variations, altering the finish to intensify the essence of the piece.  I create vibrant, yet transparent patinas that emphasize the fluidity and movement of each piece. In my search for transparency, I have incorporated glass casting. Glass allows me to incorporate light and shadow into my work. The sculpture shifts and changes as the viewer moves around the piece.

I am compelled to create figures, symbols and simple narratives that resonate life’s mysteries and elicit a response. My goal is to produce work that strikes an emotional chord deep within the viewer’s psyche; thus sparking an awareness of our collective place in the Universe and reinforcing our literal and figurative connections with everything around us.
